Programs

The academic program at Harbor School is directed toward remediation of the child’s learning problems, and successfully mainstreaming the student back in to the public schools.

Students are offered a full curriculum with the emphasis on basic academic skills. Recognizing that all children do not have the same academic background or ability, Harbor School establishes an Individualized Educational program for every child. This program allows the student to work at his or her own particular level in all academics and also allows the children to progress at their own pace.

In addition to our educational programs, Harbor School offers Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy. The school will arrange a screening session with each student and meet with the parent to discuss their findings. Students who need these services will receive them during the regular school day. Periodically, parents will be asked to attend meetings with their child's therapist and classroom teacher. By working cooperatively with these specialists, Harbor School can be sure that the needs of each child are identified and appropriately managed.

Classrooms at Harbor School are self-contained with a maximum student/teacher ratio of 12:1. This small ratio allows the instructor to afford each child the extra help and attention they need.

Your cooperation and participation in your child’s educational program is strongly recommended.

Summer Program

Harbor School offers a five-week summer program, beginning the first week of July.

This program provides the student with continued reinforcement of skills in the areas of reading, math, spelling and language arts.

Parents will meet each spring with their child’s teacher to discuss this program and whether their child needs to attend. The summer program allows the child to continue practicing their skills and to provide the student with subject advancement. It is important that our children have a structured learning environment, which is often difficult to achieve in the home over the summer.
